City Assessor

The city assessor's office is charged with the appraisal of all real property and personal property for property tax purposes. The city assessor's office conducts the March Board of Review for the purpose of allowing the taxpayers of Standish to protest the coming year's proposed assessments. The city assessor's office operates under the provisions of the General Property Tax Act of 1896, as amended along with any applicable local charter provisions. The city assessor's office is also responsible for land splits and combinations, property transfer affidavits and homestead exemption affidavits, and name and mailing address change.

House Bill 5351 was approved by the Governor on December 23, 2021. The Bill amends MCL 211.9o to increase the combined true cash value limit for personal property in a local unit from $80,000 to $180,000.

IMPORTANT: The changes do not take effect until the 2023 tax year (December 31, 2022). Assessors should continue to apply the $80,000 true cash value limit in 2022.

Updated guidance and Form 5076 will be published later in 2022, in advance of use for the 2023 tax year.

  • March 8th 2022 Tuesday 6:00 pm Organizational Meeting; Assessor Presents 2022 Assessment roll to Board of Review.

  • March 14th 2022 Monday 9am-12pm (open for appeals and exemption request)

  • March 16th 2022 Wednesday 2:00pm-5:00pm and 6:00pm-9:00pm (open for appeals and exemption requests)

  • March 23rd2022 Wednesday 9am -12pm (open for appeals and exemption request) 1pm-3pm Board reconciliation and certification of Assessment Roll. Board adjourns

  • July 20th 2022 Wednesday, 2:00 pm Board convenes to correct errors and hear poverty exemption request. MCL 211.53b an alternate meeting date during the week of the third Monday July MCL 211.53b(9)(b)

  • December 14th 2022 Wednesday, 2:00 pm Board convenes to correct errors and hear poverty exemption request. MCL 211.53b an alternate meeting date during the week of the second Monday in December MCL 211.53b(9)(b)

Written appeals must be received by mail or email by March 11th no later than 2:00 pm
